So i am doing the mission to unlock alliance yugao and one of the requirements is "Die with Hayate Gekko once''. Does that mean that i have to have Hayate and Yugao on the same team and both of them die or what?

You can have both characters in the team. Yet you do not have to. But for that requirement specifically, Hayate Gekko has to die in a match.
